Arsenal booked their place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals after a tense and dramatic victory over Crystal Palace that was settled by penalties, with goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga emerging as the match-winner.
The Gunners looked set to win in normal time when Maxence Lacroix turned the ball into his own net late on, but Palace struck back deep into stoppage time through Marc Guehi to force a shootout.
Palace goalkeeper Walter Benitez had kept his side alive with a string of outstanding saves, including a late stop from Declan Rice, and the penalty contest was evenly matched.
However, with the shootout finely poised, Lacroix’s difficult night ended in disappointment when his spot-kick was saved by Arrizabalaga, sending Arsenal through.
The Gunners now face Chelsea over two legs for a place in the final.
