Former All Blacks scrum coach Mike Cron has strongly condemned the growing trend of “Run It Straight” events, calling them “barbaric” and unsafe.
The controversial activity, where two participants charge at each other full speed with no protective gear or formal rules, has gained traction online and in organised competitions, some offering cash prizes.
Cron, a leading advocate for rugby safety and now Wallabies scrum coach, criticised the lack of safety standards and the risk of serious injury, referencing the tragic death of a Palmerston North teen. He suggests a safer alternative using tackle bags to measure impact force.
