Auckland FC blitz Melbourne FC to reclaim top spot

Auckland FC ended their form slump with a commanding 3-0 victory over league leaders Melbourne FC at Mount Smart Stadium, reclaiming the top spot in the A-League.

Three rapid-fire goals in a 15-minute spell from Guillermo May, Nando Pijnaker, and Max Mata sealed the game before halftime.

Despite the absence of captain Hiroki Sakai, stand-in skipper Tommy Smith lauded the team’s collective defensive effort, which secured their seventh clean sheet of the season.

Auckland’s high-intensity approach and clinical finishing in the first half proved decisive, revitalising their campaign after recent struggles.
