Black caps falter in final session

Pakistan v Black Caps 2nd test Day 1 news

Day 1 of the 2nd Test between Pakistan and New Zealand at Karachi.

Cicinfo described the day as ‘a rollercoaster’ to kick off Test cricket in 2023.

New Zealand openers dominated the first session and even after Latham fell in the second, Conway went on to score a century as he put on a 100-run stand with Kane Williamson. At 226-1 at tea, New Zealand looked in a commanding position, but Pakistan stormed back in the third session, picking five wickets over the next 45 runs. Agha Salman was the star of the session for Pakistan, as he picked three wickets. Naseem Shah also got his second wicket of the match with the big scalp of Williamson. Abrar Ahmed, who has gone for 101 runs in 24 overs, also managed to pick a wicket, trapping Michael Bracewell leg before. However, Tom Blundell and Ish Sodhi have put on 30 runs for the seventh wicket, and both have looked solid at the crease. While Pakistan could, rather surprisingly after what happened in the first two sessions, feel like the happier side on the day, they will want to carry forward the momentum into day 2 and get some early wickets and not let New Zealand get away from them now.

Stumps

  • NZ 309/6 (90 ov)
  • Tom Blundell* 30(62)
  • Ish Sodhi 11(29)
  • Agha Salman 3/55 (20 ov)
  • Day 1 – New Zealand chose to bat.
