Black Caps stage spectacular comeback to snatch first T20I win over Sri Lanka

In a dramatic clash at Mount Maunganui, New Zealand pulled off a stunning eight-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first T20I, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

The hosts staged a remarkable comeback after being on the ropes at 65 for 5 during their innings.

Daryl Mitchell and Michael Bracewell’s 105-run stand propelled New Zealand to a competitive 172 for 8.

Despite a dominant 121-run opening partnership from Sri Lanka, their chase unraveled spectacularly, losing eight wickets for just 38 runs.

Jacob Duffy’s pivotal 14th over, claiming three wickets, turned the tide, earning him the Player of the Match award.

Sri Lanka’s collapse, exacerbated by no-balls and misjudged lengths from Matheesha Pathirana, handed New Zealand an improbable win, leaving the visitors to rue missed opportunities and tactical errors.
