Celtic ‘within touching distance’ of Scottish premiership after ‘imperfect’ Old Firm win

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers believes the Scottish Premiership title is within ‘touching distance,’ despite the challenges his team has faced this season.

Injuries, fan frustration, and a tight race with fierce rivals Rangers created obstacles, but a 2-1 victory against a 10-man Rangers at Celtic Park has left Rodgers optimistic.

With two games remaining and a six-point lead, a draw in either of their final matches will secure the title.

Acknowledging that the season hasn’t been perfect, Rodgers commended his players for their resilience, unity, and mentality in securing crucial victories. Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton had criticised Rodgers earlier in the season after back-to-back defeats, but Rodgers emphasised how the team has stayed unified and progressed despite the setbacks.

The manager remains determined to finish the season strong, sprinting across the finish line and maintaining Celtic’s dominance over Scottish football. Although Rangers aimed to challenge under new manager Philippe Clement, their slip-ups have allowed Celtic to capitalise and solidify their lead.

BBC Sportsound pundit Leanne Crichton and former Scotland midfielder Michael Stewart believe Celtic’s advantage over Rangers is significant and will only widen due to financial gains from the Champions League. Clement now faces the challenge of overhauling Rangers’ squad to close the gap in future seasons.
