Brigid Dennehy defended her title and smashed the women’s record at the Auckland Marathon, finishing in 2 hours 38 minutes and 10 seconds—over three minutes faster than the previous mark.
Alexandra’s Daniel Balchin claimed the men’s title in 2:19:55, describing the race as his best yet. More than 17,000 participants took part across multiple events, including the marathon, half marathon, and children’s run, with ages ranging from five to 89.
Christchurch’s Christopher Dryden and local runner Lisa Cross won the half marathon titles, while wheelchair racers Michael Taylor, Sally Barkman, and Tracy Garman claimed their respective divisions in ideal weather conditions.
