Football Association chair and FIFA vice-president Debbie Hewitt has called on FIFA president Gianni Infantino to release all documents concerning his abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal, which would have transferred commercial and ticketing rights for competitions including the World Cup to a new company and sold a 21% stake to a private investor.
In a letter ahead of the 15 October FIFA Council meeting, Hewitt also sought an independent review into how the proposal was developed and tendered, while raising wider concerns about FIFA’s governance and internal culture.
She additionally demanded a written explanation for the decision to suspend US forward Folarin Balogun’s World Cup ban, particularly after US President Donald Trump said he had contacted Infantino about the case.
The controversies have prompted several national associations to withdraw previously expressed support for Infantino’s re-election, although he continues to receive backing from the African, South American and Oceania confederations.
