Former England rugby international Tom Voyce, 43, is believed to have tragically died after his car was swept away while attempting to cross a flooded ford near Alnwick during Storm Darragh.
Northumbria Police confirmed his disappearance after he failed to return home from an evening with friends.
Despite recovering his car, extensive searches have yet to locate Voyce, with authorities believing he was swept away by the river’s strong current.
The Cornwall-born athlete, celebrated for his prolific tryscoring as a wing and fullback, enjoyed a storied career, notably helping London Wasps secure multiple Premiership and European Cup titles.
He earned nine England caps between 2001 and 2006 before retiring in 2013.
