New Zealand’s Ryan Fox produced a dramatic finish to capture the 154th British Open, sealing victory with a superb 20-foot birdie putt on the final hole at Royal Birkdale to edge American Cameron Young by a single stroke.
Fox closed with a four-under 68 to finish at nine under par, becoming just the second New Zealand man to win the prestigious championship after Bob Charles in 1963.
After surging into contention with a record-equalling 62 in the third round, Fox held his nerve on Sunday, birdieing four of his final six holes before delivering a memorable approach and winning putt on the 18th.
Young’s brilliant final-round 64 earned second place, while overnight leader Sam Burns finished third, with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Tommy Fleetwood sharing fourth.
