Goalkeeper’s heroics send Rangers to Europa League quarter-finals

Jack Butland’s penalty shootout brilliance secured Rangers’ place in the Europa League quarter-finals after Fenerbahce overturned a 3-1 first-leg deficit at Ibrox.

The Rangers goalkeeper saved from Dusan Tadic and Fred before Mert Hakan Yandas blazed his effort over the bar, sealing a dramatic victory.

Despite a two-goal lead from their Istanbul triumph, Rangers struggled at home as Sebastian Szymanski’s brace leveled the tie. Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce pushed for a winner, but Rangers held firm, forcing extra time and a penalty shootout.

James Tavernier, Vaclav Cerny, and Tom Lawrence converted their spot kicks to set up a quarter-final clash with Athletic Bilbao.

Although Rangers suffered their fourth consecutive home defeat for the first time in history, relief and joy dominated Ibrox as Ferguson’s side continued their European adventure amid a challenging domestic season.
