FIFA president Gianni Infantino has dismissed suggestions he should resign over a controversial proposal to sell commercial rights to private investors, insisting he retains overwhelming support across international football.
The abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise scheme triggered accusations of deception from leading regional football organisations, with UEFA demanding access to key documents and explanations by 2 November.
Although Infantino has apologised for shortcomings in consultation and communication, he has yet to provide a firm timetable for releasing the requested information. Speaking to BBC Sport, he acknowledged disagreements within football’s governing bodies but maintained that differing opinions should not prevent progress.
Pointing to renewed endorsements from Asian and African football associations, Infantino expressed confidence in his leadership ahead of next March’s presidential election, for which no rival candidate has yet emerged.
