Late Kartum strike seals third straight win for Phoenix

The Wellington Phoenix secured a third consecutive A-League victory with a dramatic 89th-minute winner from Sander Kartum to defeat third-placed Melbourne Victory in Melbourne, keeping their finals push alive.

Captain Alex Rufer praised the side’s effort and growing cohesion under mid-season coach Chris Greenacre, highlighting improved intensity and belief despite missed opportunities earlier in the match. A disciplined defensive performance underpinned the result, while youngster Luke Brooke-Smith came close to adding a late second but missed a clear chance, as the Phoenix continue to build momentum at a crucial stage of the season.
