New Zealand Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson steered clear of first-lap collisions to claim ninth in the sprint race at the U.S. Grand Prix in Texas.
The race opened dramatically as McLaren teammates Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris were forced to retire after a turn-one tangle involving Nico Hulkenberg, prompting a safety car. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen took victory ahead of Mercedes’ George Russell and Williams’ Carlos Sainz.
Starting 15th, Lawson made strong gains to finish just outside the points, while teammate Isack Hadjar placed 12th. Another safety car was deployed later after Lance Stroll collided with Sebastian Ocon.
