Dame Lisa Carrington, New Zealand’s most successful Olympian, has added another accolade to her illustrious career by winning her seventh Olympic medal and sixth gold.
Carrington spearheaded the women’s kayak four team to a thrilling victory in the 500-metre final at the Paris Olympics. The win marks the first Olympic medal for her teammates Alicia Hoskin, Olivia Brett, and Tara Vaughan.
The New Zealand crew surged ahead from the start, facing fierce competition from Germany at the 250-metre mark. However, Carrington and her team powered through to finish first with a time of one minute and 32 seconds, bringing New Zealand’s total medal tally to 12.
