Liverpool advanced in the League Cup with a 2-1 win over Southampton, but manager Arne Slot criticised striker Hugo Ekitike for a “stupid” dismissal.
Ekitike, who had already been booked for dissent, scored the winner before removing his shirt in celebration, earning a second yellow card and leaving Liverpool to finish the game with 10 men.
Captain Andy Robertson also called the act careless, while Ekitike later apologised on Instagram.
Liverpool remain unbeaten in the league and face Crystal Palace next, with Slot confirming Alexander Isak—who scored his first goal against Everton—will be gradually built into the squad after his recent move.
