Man City launches fresh legal challenge against Premier League sponsorship rules

Manchester City has initiated a new legal battle against the Premier League, challenging recent amendments to the Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules, which regulate sponsorship deals involving club-linked companies.

The club argues that the updated rules, approved by a majority of top-flight clubs in November despite their opposition, are “unlawful and void.”

This latest arbitration follows a previous ruling that found aspects of the league’s financial regulations in breach of competition law.

The Premier League insists the amendments are legal and remain in full force. The dispute, which has already incurred significant legal costs, coincides with an ongoing disciplinary case against City for alleged financial rule breaches, adding to the tensions ahead of an upcoming shareholders’ meeting.
