Max Verstappen claimed victory at the Las Vegas Grand Prix and surged back into Formula 1 title contention after McLaren duo Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were shockingly disqualified post-race for excessive skid-plank wear.
Norris, who had led the championship and finished second on the road, loses crucial points and now sits just 24 clear of Verstappen with two rounds remaining, while Piastri also drops out of the results.
The FIA ruled the infractions unintentional, but the setback leaves the championship finely poised heading into Qatar.
George Russell was promoted to second and rookie Kimi Antonelli to third in the final classification, while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Williams’ Carlos Sainz also benefited from the reshuffle. Verstappen’s win — his sixth of the season — keeps his hopes of a fifth consecutive title alive as the season enters its decisive phase.
