Nottingham Forest deducted Premier League points for breaching financial rules

Nottingham Forest news

Nottingham Forest has been penalised with a four-point deduction for violating Premier League profit and sustainability rules, causing them to fall into the relegation zone.

This action comes after an independent commission found the club exceeded the permitted £61m loss limit by £34.5m up to the 2022-23 season.

Forest management said they were disappointed by the decision, claiming it undermined their trust in the Premier League, especially after extensive cooperation during the investigation process.

Forest are the second Premier League club to face penalties for such breaches, following Everton’s point deduction earlier.

Despite potentially appealing against the ruling, the deduction stems from Forest’s disproportionate losses during their time in the Championship compared to their allowed maximum.

The club criticised the Premier League’s initial suggestion for a harsher penalty and expressed dissatisfaction with the league’s lack of reciprocal cooperation, according to a report in UK State media the BBC. The reduced penalty was attributed to Forest’s early plea and cooperative stance during the process, with any appeals aimed to be concluded before the season’s end.
