In a shock move, world number one Novak Djokovic has announced the end of his successful collaboration with coach Goran Ivanisevic.
The announcement comes just as the clay court season is about to ramp up.
Serbian Djokovic shared the news in a social media post, accompanied by a photograph of him and Ivanisevic engaging in a casual game of Parchisi.
Croatian Ivanisevic, himself a celebrated figure in the tennis world known for his Wimbledon victory in 2001 and three runner-up finishes in the 90s, became part of Djokovic’s coaching staff in 2019. Since then the duo have enjoyed a remarkable journey, securing nine Grand Slam victories together.
The decision to part ways follows Djokovic’s recent performances, including a notable defeat by Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open semi-finals and an unexpected loss to Luca Nardi at Indian Wells. Additionally, Djokovic opted out of the Miami Open, aiming to reduce his tournament appearances this year.
Looking ahead, Djokovic is preparing for the upcoming clay season with the French Open in sight, where he aims to capture his fourth title at the prestigious event scheduled from May 26 to June 9.
