Cole Palmer delivered a standout performance as Chelsea defeated European champions Paris St-Germain 3-0 to claim the inaugural title in the expanded Club World Cup.

The England midfielder scored twice and assisted Joao Pedro’s goal with a brilliant pass, all before halftime at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium. PSG, who were dubbed “the best in the world” by Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, struggled to recover, with missed chances and a late red card for Joao Neves compounding their misery.

Post-match tensions flared as PSG manager Luis Enrique appeared to slap Joao Pedro, later claiming he was trying to defuse a scuffle.
