Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) successfully defended their UEFA Champions League title after edging Arsenal in a dramatic penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in Budapest.
Arsenal made the perfect start when Kai Havertz struck inside six minutes, and the Premier League champions controlled much of the first half. However, PSG found a way back through Ousmane Dembele, who calmly converted a second-half penalty before later departing injured.
Neither side could find a winner through regulation or extra time despite several late chances, sending the final to penalties. Arsenal’s hopes were dented when Eberechi Eze missed from the spot, and although goalkeeper David Raya briefly revived the Gunners’ chances with a save from Nuno Mendes, Gabriel Magalhaes’ missed penalty handed PSG victory. The result secures a second consecutive European crown for the French giants, while Arsenal’s quest for a maiden Champions League title remains unresolved despite an impressive season.
