White Ferns stun South Africa to claim T20 World Cup victory

The White Ferns pulled off a major upset by defeating South Africa in the T20 Women’s World Cup final in Dubai, marking New Zealand’s first-ever win in the tournament.

Led by captain Sophie Devine, the White Ferns posted a competitive 158 for five, with Melie Kerr’s 43 runs leading the charge, supported by Brooke Halliday (38) and Suzie Bates (32). South Africa started strong with Laura Volvaart and Tazmin Brits putting up a 51-run opening partnership, but a collapse followed after Fran Jonas dismissed Brits.

Kerr’s brilliant bowling took three wickets for 24, turning the momentum in favor of New Zealand, who restricted South Africa to 126 for nine, securing a 32-run victory.

The triumph marks New Zealand’s first appearance in a T20 final since 2010, reversing recent losses to cricket giants Australia and England.

The team earned $3.85 million in prize money and celebrated the win as an extraordinary comeback.
