OpenAI has disclosed that more than one million people discuss suicidal thoughts with ChatGPT each week, prompting the company to roll out new safety measures aimed at improving how the chatbot detects and responds to users in distress.
According to internal analysis, around 0.15% of ChatGPT’s 800 million weekly users have shown explicit signs of suicidal planning or intent, while another 0.05% have exhibited milder indicators of suicidal ideation. The figures suggest that approximately 1.2 million users have discussed suicide, and about 400,000 have displayed signs of serious intent.
OpenAI also reported that 0.07% of users show potential signs of mental health crises involving psychosis or mania, and that 1.2 million users demonstrate strong emotional dependence on the chatbot.
In response, the company has partnered with global mental health experts to refine ChatGPT’s ability to identify and respond to such situations safely and empathetically. The update is designed to help the AI direct users toward professional assistance without reinforcing delusional or harmful beliefs.
The announcement follows growing concern among mental health professionals about AI-induced dependency and “AI psychosis,” a term describing users developing delusional or paranoid thoughts through prolonged interactions with chatbots.

The contemplation of the world systems that benefit a very few at the cost of very very many and to what meaningful end?
Surely there is more to life than being a chicken on a tax farm…?
So true.
NLP is mind pollution.
Given the way these Western politicians keep trying to destroy peoples lives, is it any wonder. Would be interesting to see a break down by country. I’ll wager the West, is grossly over represented.

Thank you for highlighting such an important topic. Ignore the issue all you like, male suicide is overwhelming represented by males.
Those people who read about it, who are not close to victims of suicide, have no idea what causes people to make that decision. A decision that renders a person to give up their lot in life, to give up their soul and all they were.
I don’t know why government allows such horrendous feelings inside someone. Maybe politicians think it’s a vote grabber. A policy sold under the guise of protection when really it is a wealth distribution. Ultimately, at the end of the day it kills more people than the road toll.
I dare you to read this New Zealand posts and the comments from it. It is a real eye-opener as to why your dad ended his life and the total ignorance and contempt government dishes out to these victims.
I am woman. I don’t have a dad to talk to anymore. I have memories and some photos of him and that’s about it. My dad is dead because of what the NZ family court did to him.

Hard to believe all NZ governments have in place policies to create such helplessness then call it a health issue.
It is only when politicians get into opposition they accuse the other politicians of not doing enough. More political grandstand. To score political points. Knowing full well it is a way to strip men of their property, future income until the only relief is finding a rope and quietly creeping off to a forest area.
For a government to place someone into a position of hopelessness is not acceptable.
To protect themselves men are not getting involved. That has its consequences too. Two dwellings and all the infrastructure to support that are needed for one family. Women who can’t find a man willingly to risk their wellbeing and financial future.
Quite sure their are women in the situation too.
