US startup Proto is redefining virtual communication with its groundbreaking “holographic” platform, which beams life-size 3D video into venues like universities, hotels, and medical centres.
Using a large 400-pound box, Proto‘s technology creates the illusion of three-dimensionality by projecting shadows and reflections, offering a more immersive experience than traditional video calls.
The company’s devices, which can broadcast pre-recorded or live video using any 4K camera, are now being used in diverse industries, from education to healthcare, allowing for more authentic and engaging remote interactions.
Proto has already partnered with big corporations like Amazon, Walmart, and the NFL, while universities and medical institutions are also utilizing the technology for guest lectures and patient care.
Doctors at West Cancer Center in the US have praised the enhanced patient experience Proto offers, especially in delicate consultations, while universities like Loughborough report higher engagement with hologram-based lectures. Proto’s CEO, David Nussbaum, envisions a future where the smaller, more affordable versions of the technology will be accessible in homes, revolutionising personal connections as well.
