A 65-year-old woman has died after being stabbed inside a Barnes & Noble bookstore in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, with police charging a 40-year-old man with first-degree premeditated murder.

The victim, Rita Loncharich, was attacked around 8pm at the Legacy Place shopping centre and was found wounded inside the store before later dying in hospital. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect, Antonio Moore, flee the scene immediately after the stabbing.

Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing and a motive has not yet been determined, while the shopping centre expressed sadness over the death of a customer following the violent incident.
