Bill Gates cancelled his scheduled keynote appearance at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi just hours before he was due to speak, with the Gates Foundation citing a decision to keep attention on the event’s broader priorities, though the move comes amid renewed scrutiny following his name appearing in recently released US Department of Justice files linked to Jeffrey Epstein.
Gates, who denies any wrongdoing and has previously expressed ‘regret’ over past meetings with Epstein, was replaced by a senior foundation official, while global leaders including Narendra Modi, Emmanuel Macron, and major technology executives continued discussions focused on AI governance, global cooperation, investment, and ensuring artificial intelligence benefits developing nations as India seeks to position itself as a major global AI hub.
