Obama made the observation in a 1982 letter to his then girlfriend Alex McNear.
The pair dated for a year when Obama was studying at Occidental College, a liberal arts college located in Los Angeles.
The letter is now the property of Emory University, who do not allow it to be removed or photographed. However, a friend of historian and Obama biographer David Garrow viewed the letter and wrote out the paragraph by hand, according to a report in the NY Post.
‘In regard to homosexuality, I must say that I believe this is an attempt to remove oneself from the present, a refusal perhaps to perpetuate the endless farce of earthly life. You see, I make love to men daily, but in the imagination,’ wrote the then 21-year-old future President.
‘My mind is androgynous to a great extent and I hope to make it more so until I can think in terms of people, not women as opposed to men. But, in returning to the body, I see that I have been made a man, and physically in life, I choose to accept that contingency.’
Speculation about Obama’s sexual tendencies have been circulating for years, and reached a high point recently when former Fox News presenter Tucker Carlson observed in an episode of his highly popular Twitter show that ‘[by] 2008, it was obvious to anybody who was paying attention that Barack Obama had a strange and highly creepy personal life. Yet nobody ever asked him about it.’
Illinois man Larry Sinclair claimed he performed oral sex on a then Senator Obama in the back of a limo during a drug-fuelled escapade sometime between November 3rd and 8th 1999. Sinclair later detailed claims about Obama’s sordid past in a 2009 book titled ‘Barack Obama and Larry Sinclair: Cocaine, Sex, Lies and Murder?‘.
Obama has not responded to the NY Post article.
