NASA astronauts to return in 2025 after Starliner issues extend mission

NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmore, who have been stranded in space for over two months, will return to Earth in February 2025 via a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft.

The pair originally embarked on an eight-day mission aboard Boeing’s Starliner on June 5, 2024. However, the mission was extended due to technical issues with the Starliner, including helium leaks and malfunctioning thrusters, which prevented its safe return.

Engineers from NASA and Boeing have spent months analysing the problems, ultimately deciding that the astronauts would return on a SpaceX vehicle instead.

Boeing’s Starliner mission, its first crewed attempt under a $4.2 billion NASA contract, has faced multiple delays and setbacks, contrasting with SpaceX’s successful track record of nine crewed missions.

The extended stay will allow Williams and Wilmore to continue scientific and maintenance work on the International Space Station (ISS).

NASA confirmed that both astronauts, who are experienced with long-duration space missions, fully support the revised plan.

  1. LOL! Ring, ring. Ring, ring. “dos vadanhya, Vlad speaking”. “Mate, can be borrow one of your Vostoks?” The Russians could have one up there and back again while NASA p’s about with excuses.

  2. Does anybody believe this garbage?

Polishing their rocket I would say

  3. Has NASA (Never A Straight Answer) now become the U.S. Coast Guard in space with the old quote…”You have to go out, but you don’t have to come back!”???
For On-Time Deliveries, Fly Soyuz Space Lines! 🙂

  4. Search for ISS hoax, the space station doesn’t exist outside of NASA studios giant swimming pool and a modded 747 for the weightless scenes, they ain’t up there.
