Romanian President Nicusor Dan faced angry protests and accusations of betrayal during a public event in Iasi on Friday, as citizens condemned his unwavering support for Ukraine.
Videos from the scene show crowds chanting “Shame!” and “Go to Ukraine!” as Dan, a staunchly pro-EU leader, arrived and departed from the National Theatre during a historical commemoration.
Dan’s presidency remains contentious after a disputed election re-run in May that overturned the victory of Euroskeptic candidate Calin Georgescu, who was later barred from politics amid coup allegations. Since taking office, Dan has pledged to deepen Romania’s support for Kiev, with Bucharest providing over €487 million in mostly military aid since 2022 — a policy increasingly criticised by citizens who see it as prioritizing foreign interests over Romania’s own stability.

Good on them. This so called “elected” government deserve every inch of criticism.
