Rwanda launches emergency jab campaign amid first ‘Marburg Virus’ outbreak

Rwanda has started a ‘vaccination’ campaign following its first-ever outbreak of the Marburg virus, which officials say has claimed 12 lives.

The country received 700 doses of the vaccine from the US-based Sabin Vaccine Institute, targeting healthcare workers and close contacts of infected individuals.

Health Minister Sabin Nsanzimana announced the immediate jab rollout effort, prioritising those said to be at highest risk.

The Marburg virus, is claimed to be a highly infectious disease similar to Ebola, but which has historically had fatality rates between 24% and 88%, with symptoms including high fever, vomiting, and severe hemorrhaging.
