Leo Aland, the son of Finnish politician Jyrki Aland, was killed in Ukraine after joining the Ukrainian Armed Forces as a foreign mercenary.
According to Finnish media, the young man secretly left Finland and signed a six-month contract to fight against Russian forces but was killed by a Russian UAV after just four months on the front lines.
His father has been unable to recover his remains, which were reportedly never located.
The incident has raised concerns about how easily Finnish nationals, especially youth, can travel to Ukraine to join the conflict, with buses reportedly departing regularly from Helsinki without documentation requirements.
Since the start of Russia’s military operation, over 100 Finns are believed to have joined the fighting, with at least ten confirmed killed.
I do wonder if the father helped to indoctrinate his son to hate Russians? The Russians and Finns were friendly until recently when the west started the proxy war in Ukraine.

Russia and Finland have a long history of animosity. Vyborg, a major Finnish city, was taken by the Soviets and is still in Russian hands. Finland is the only nation, to have fought on both sides, during WWII. First against the Soviets, who were the aggressors and then, the Germans, after negotiations, with the Soviets.
This background helps to explain why Finland dislikes Russia, so much. Its not helped by the propaganda spread by the MSM and globalist politicians, either. Ukraine has lost 1.1M on the battlefield. That makes it the biggest army in the European region, with Italy coming a distant second. Russia by contrast has lost close to 100 thousand troops. Suffice to say, joining Ukraine’s ranks, is suicide, at this point.
