Sport changes name after J.K. Rowling trans row

Quidditch news

Quidditch was brought to life in the Harry Potter books and is now popular in US colleges.

Quidditch’s governing bodies have decided to change the sport’s name to ‘quadball’, partly as a reaction to Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling’s supposedly “anti-trans positions.”

Quidditch was brought to life by Rowling in the widely popular book series about the teenage wizard, and has since spread to US college campuses.

In December last year, US Quidditch and Major League Quidditch revealed that they were mulling over a name change due to a loss of “sponsorship and broadcast opportunities.”

These were being made due to Warner Bros, which produced the Hollywood box office smash movies based on the Harry Potter books, owning the copyright for the sport’s original name.

On Tuesday, though, a separate governing body named International Quidditch Association said that Rowling’s “anti-trans positions” were the reason for the change to quadball.

“We’ve tried to be clear that it’s both reasons,” remarked US Quidditch and Major League Quidditch spokesman Jack McGovern to the New York Times.

“We did not intend to give a value judgment about which reason was more important than the other,” he added, though McGovern did claim that the sport’s association with Rowling, who has been accused of being transphobic and denies such claims, has been problematic in recruiting new players.

The quadball name refers to the amount of balls on the field during matches and also the number of player positions.

Major League Quidditch and US Quidditch are now to be known as Major League Quadball and US Quadball moving forward, with the International Quidditch Association expected to alter its name accordingly in the near future.

In a statement, US Quadball executive director Mary Kimball noted how, “in less than 20 years” their sport has grown “from a few dozen college students in rural Vermont to a global phenomenon with thousands of players, semi-pro leagues and international championships”.

“Our organizations are committed to continuing to push quadball forward,” she vowed.

Quadball was adapted into a real-life sport 17 years ago in 2005 and now boasts 600 teams across 40 countries.

  1. This is ridiculous, it’s not even a real playable sport, anyway it’s a game she invented. Perhaps she should sue them into oblivion for turning her idea into a stupid joke being ridiculed by the sane world who know fact from fantasy. it’s sad when middle aged men and women living in their parents basements don’t not real from fiction.

  2. JKR,s anti trans stance? JKR has other stances too, she uses sentences like ‘women and girls’ not ‘women and children’ can you guess what her stance is now?
This cow needs to be in the ‘who gives a f**k’ basket, she does no deserve any attention.

  3. JK isn’t anti trans. She’s pro woman. There is room for both. It’s just the trans people want to literally override women, take away our sports, our spaces, our language, our rights, our scholarships, our safety and they want to tell us how to think and what to say.

NO one knows what it’s like to BE a woman unless you ARE one. What is a woman? An adult human female. XX

  4. Women have suffered enough after centuries of being controlled, abused, belittled, subjected and their bodies objectified, without the trans lobby now doing this to women too.

If an incredibly small minority of men want to become women, or females want to become males, and vice versa, that’s perfectly fine.
But don’t force this onto the rest of humanity. Especially do not force this not onto women. Leave our femininity and womenhood alone. Breasts are breasts. Breastfeeding is not chest feeding. Women are women, not people who bleed/menstruate.

What are men then? People who ejaculate semen? People who have penises? People who have scrotums? People who have more testosterone than other people?

How can any remotely intelligent person even ask the question, ‘what is a woman?’

Leave women and our female bodies alone, we’ve suffered enough at the hands of bigotry, marginalisation, abuse, objectification, silencing, shaming and labelling.

That we even tolerate, let alone encourage, kowtowing to this insane level of identity politics is a reflection on the mindless cruelty of those doing it and the brainless stupidity of those enforcing it.

    • As for women having power in society they generally haven’t for ‘evolutionary’ reasons, to have power is to be able to initiate conflict and when conflict is initiated its outcome is violence and death, things that women don’t do well at and can be a evolutionary dead end for a mans genes.
Conflict is usually initiated to take another groups possessions from them, if women were allowed to initiate conflict and the men had to carry out the conflict and lose then all the men and their male children would be killed and their genetic lineage would end, women’s however would not, they would join the gene pool of the victors, there was no downside to women having that kind of power and initiating conflict. The problems women have today is because they wanted power and got it and used it unwisely and the women at fault are the liberal kind and most women are the liberal kind, so its your mess, you can clean it up [Edited]

  5. If you knew anything about European history you would know that for the last 2000 odd years Europe was ruled by monarchies and everyone who lived in Europe lived on land owned by gentry and were the property of that gentry, men, women, children.
And the monarchy was made up of kings and Queens, there were many queens who had immense power, Elizabeth 1, Victoria, Catherine also Isabella of Spain who petitioned the Pope to designate Blacks in Africa as ‘sub human’ so they could be enslaved and shipped to the new world. You all were in on it all up to your necks.

  6. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE being a woman.

I love being called a woman.
I love being female and having breasts and a vagina.
I loved breastfeeding my child with my breasts.

If other women don’t want to be called females or don’t want to be labelled ‘women,’ or want to be known as ‘people who bleed’ or have their breasts referred to as ‘chests’ that’s their choice.

I’m incredibly proud of my female gender and I celebrate every aspect of my femininity.
