Fonua-Blake’s heroics propel Warriors to 28-16 win over Wests Tigers

Warriors v Wests Tigers 2024 news

A stellar performance from prop Addin Fonua-Blake led the Warriors to a crucial 28-16 victory over the Wests Tigers, keeping their slim finals hopes alive.

Fonua-Blake was a powerhouse throughout his 63-minute stint, amassing 225 running meters, breaking six tackles, and sealing the win with a decisive try.

The Warriors dominated the game from the start, with Kurt Capewell scoring the opening try in the 9th minute, followed by late first-half tries from Edward Kosi and Ali Leiataua, establishing a 14-0 halftime lead. Despite the Tigers’ strong defensive efforts, the Warriors maintained control, bolstered by two penalty goals and Fonua-Blake’s crucial try in the 69th minute.

The Wests Tigers, suffering their fifth consecutive loss, remain at the bottom of the ladder despite a spirited second-half response.

Coach Benji Marshall’s halftime rally led to tries by Isaiah Papali’i and Charlie Staines, narrowing the gap to 14-10. However, the Warriors extended their lead through penalties and solidified their victory with late tries from Fonua-Blake and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak.

A last-minute try by Api Koroisau provided a small consolation for the Tigers, concluding a challenging evening for the visitors.
