Three children die in Sydney house fire amid allegations of domestic violence

A house fire in Lalor Park, Sydney has resulted in the deaths of three young children in what police are treating as a domestic violence incident.

Fire crews responded to the emergency call just before 1 am, but their rescue efforts were allegedly obstructed by a 28-year-old man, now in custody, who is the father of the deceased children.

NSW Police Acting Superintendent Jason Pietruszka confirmed the man’s interference during police and emergency services’ attempts to save the children. The children, two boys aged two and four, were initially treated at the scene and taken to Westmead Hospital in critical condition but succumbed to their injuries shortly after. A 10-month-old girl was found dead at the scene once the fire was extinguished.

Four other children and a 29-year-old woman were also taken to the hospital. The chaotic scene, described by NSW Fire and Rescue Superintendent Adam Dewberry, involved firefighters battling intense flames and extreme conditions, with temperatures reaching 600 to 700 degrees.

Despite heroic efforts the firefighters faced significant challenges in locating and rescuing the children due to the severity of the fire.

The incident has left the local community in shock, with residents expressing their devastation over the tragic loss. The police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire and the man’s alleged actions that hindered the rescue efforts.
