US President Donald Trump has unveiled plans for a new class of battleships for the US Navy, claiming the vessels will be the largest and most powerful ever built.
Speaking from his Mar-a-Lago estate during what the White House described as a major announcement, Trump said he had approved the construction of two ships initially, with the long-term goal of expanding the fleet to as many as 25.
Dubbed the “Trump-class,” the battleships are expected to be larger than the World War II-era Iowa-class ships and equipped with advanced weapons including hypersonic missiles, rail guns and laser systems.
Trump said the first vessel could be procured around 2030 as part of a broader naval expansion involving both crewed and uncrewed ships. The announcement comes amid growing concern within US defence circles that American shipbuilding capacity is lagging behind China, as well as heightened naval activity in regions such as the Caribbean and the Red Sea.

Will the ship travel in a direction and then randomly change course, all the while firing colourful but ineffective flares. Will it have a gold plated hull and a diamond encrusted steering wheel and French designer chandeliers, hanging from its ceilings?
