President-elect Donald Trump has nominated veteran prosecutor and long-time ally Pam Bondi as his choice for attorney general.
Bondi, who served as Florida’s attorney general and has a distinguished 20-year career as a prosecutor, was described by Trump as “tough on violent criminals” and “dedicated to making America safe again.”
Announcing the appointment on social media, Trump praised Bondi’s unwavering commitment to law and order.
“Pam will refocus the DOJ [Department of Justice] to its intended purpose of fighting crime and making America safe again,” he wrote, pledging that her leadership would end what he calls the “weaponisation” of the department against Republicans.
Bondi’s nomination comes as part of Trump’s broader vision to restore trust in the justice system and protect U.S. borders.
She has been a vocal supporter of Trump, standing by him during his first impeachment trial and serving on his legal team during other high-profile cases.
Her work with the America First Policy Institute has further cemented her status as a champion for conservative values and legal reform.
Republican leaders quickly hailed the selection, with Senator Lindsey Graham calling it a “grand slam” and predicting swift Senate confirmation.
Bondi’s track record and loyalty to Trump signal a renewed focus on fighting crime and dismantling political weaponisation at the DOJ, aligning with Trump’s promises to his voters.
The nomination came hours after Matt Gaetz, facing controversy over a congressional report, withdrew his name from consideration.
If confirmed, she will lead a department with over 115,000 employees and a $45 billion budget, playing a pivotal role in shaping Trump’s vision for his second term.
