US strategy rebukes Australia as AUKUS vanishes from new defence blueprint

The latest US National Security Strategy fails to mention AUKUS

Australia has been bluntly criticised in a sweeping new U.S. national security strategy that accuses Canberra of failing to spend enough on defence while pointedly omitting any reference to AUKUS, the centrepiece of Australia–US military cooperation.

The 33-page document released by the Trump administration outlines a more restrained and inward-focused vision of American power that is likely to unsettle ‘allies’.

The strategy declares that the U.S. will intervene abroad only when its direct interests are threatened, adding that “the days of the United States propping up the entire world order like Atlas are over.” Europe receives a harsh assessment, accused of sliding toward “civilisational erasure” and lacking the resolve to remain a reliable partner.

Australia is mentioned only three times — and not favourably. Washington praises the Quad (the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, a strategic partnership between the United States, Australia, Japan and India), but warns that Australia is not investing enough in its own security. The document states that the US is maintaining “determined rhetoric on increased defence spending” with both Taiwan and Australia. American officials want Australia to lift defence spending from 2% of GDP to as high as 3.5%, a level Canberra has not indicated it can meet.

More concerning for Australian officials is the complete absence of the word AUKUS.

Reports suggest some senior US defence figures remain sceptical of the pact, fearing submarine transfers could weaken America’s own readiness. Although Trump has personally supported the deal, internal resistance in Washington raises questions about its long-term stability.

  1. Not sure about a relatiinship that only lasts as long as you spend money on the other party… sounds like dating an initialed wretch living way beyond her means to attract the prize.

  2. ” The US will intervene abroad only when its direct interests are threatened”. I think there must have been a typo in that statement. It should have read “the US will intervene abroad only when Israel’s interests are threatened”.

  3. Hey, you Aussie political quislings, you are not spending enough of the hard working Australian people’s money, buying military shit from us, you don’t need! Come kiss our feet and do as you are told!

    • Aussies and Kiwis need a couple of German Built Baltic Sea U-Boats currently in production.

But, who knows…maybe nmow the US Marines will be booted from Oz, and the FBI booted from NZ.
In 1911 Oz made the offer for NZ to become part of Australia. That may be a good offer, since Kiwis are migrating to Oz at a record rate!
Imagine scrapping the NZ Parliament, the dysfunctional ACC, MoE, MoH, the local corrupt councils and replacing those with Australian programs ie Social Security, affordable food, utilities & health care, etc.
Some Kiwis are holding out to see what the (s)election of 2026 will hold.
If the Uni-Party gets in and Super Hyper-Inflation goes wild, that is when many will leave NZ permanently, and forever!
The 5-Eyes nNations are in destructive trouble!
Look at what the Yanks are now doing…

  4. AUKUS is another example of failed policy left as a baton to be picked up for the next incoming government
Because that’s what the governments of men do and how they inherently function
    Damage control in perpetual motion
    That can never deliver
    Like the traditions of men

  5. Australia is a failed State
Which is destined to be inundated and consumed by its Own indebtedness and invariable collapse
    Like the US
Australia was one of the most heavily affected by lockdowns and simultaneously one of the most vaccinated nations during COVID-19
Its strict border closures, prolonged restrictions, and high vaccine uptake made it a global outlier in pandemic response

  6. The biggest problem countries like Australia, Britain and much of Europe face is that if a war did break out a large proportion of the men will say their country, and especially their “leadership”, isn’t worth fighting for.

    • The young German men already polled shows this exact facet of why they won’t serve in the Bundeswehr, Marine or Luftwaffe.
Fighting for Von Der Lyin’ and Merz is a grotesque fantasy, like the mercenaries in the Ukraine right now fighting for the J3w$ there..!
