Borussia Dortmund secures Champions League final spot with victory over PSG

Despite an underwhelming domestic season, Borussia Dortmund is on the verge of European glory after defeating Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) 1-0 in the Champions League semi-final second leg.

The victory secured a 2-0 aggregate triumph, propelling Dortmund to their second-ever Champions League final.

Defender Mats Hummels scored the decisive goal at Parc des Princes, ensuring a resilient defensive performance that left PSG struggling to capitalise on their chances. Although the French champions hit the woodwork six times over the two legs, Dortmund held strong.

Hummels is optimistic about winning the Champions League for the first time since 1997, saying the team has believed in its potential since the group stage. He added, ‘We were able to take so much pace out of the game and atmosphere out of the stadium. That was our recipe for success.’

Dortmund will face either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid in the final at Wembley on June 1st. Forward Marco Reus, who may play his last match for Dortmund in this final, highlighted the significance of reaching this stage: ‘Nobody expected this. It’s just incredible.’
