Trump barred from presidential race in second US state

Donald Trump news

The former president has been disqualified in Maine.

Maine has become the second US state to officially disqualify Donald Trump from seeking a new term as president in 2024. He was previously barred from appearing on the ballot in Colorado.

Maine’s Secretary of State Shenna Bellows ruled that Trump is ineligible to run for president, citing his alleged role in the 2021 United States Capitol riot.

“I conclude that Mr. Trump’s primary petition is invalid,” Bellows wrote in her decision published on Thursday. “Specifically, I find that the declaration on his candidate consent form is false because he is not qualified to hold the office of the President under Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment.”

Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution says that people who “have engaged in insurrection or rebellion” cannot “hold any office, civil or military.” The section was initially added in the 1860s to disqualify politicians that supported the Confederacy during the civil war.

Trump is the frontrunner for the Republican Party’s nomination to run against President Joe Biden in 2024. The fate of his candidacy will ultimately be decided by the Supreme Court, however, because Colorado Republicans have already appealed their state’s decision to bar him from the ballot.

“Unless the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision is overturned, any voter will have the power to sue to disqualify any political candidate,” the party attorneys wrote on Wednesday. They further argued that the ruling against Trump would “not only distort the 2024 presidential election,” but throw the court into “political controversies over nebulous accusations of insurrection.”

On January 6, 2021 a crowd clashed with police and briefly overran the Capitol building hoping to stop Congress from certifying Biden’s election win, prompting Democrats to accuse the then-president of inciting the struggle. Trump continues to claim that the 2020 election was “rigged,” but denies any role in directly instigating the violence on Capitol Hill. He insists that the allegations against him are politically motivated.

  1. He’s appealed so is back on the ballot in Colorado. Ballots are getting printed in Jan so they’re just trying to get him off long enough for his name to be left off. The left are just so childishly nasty.

  2. Bellows is a former ACLU far-left lawyer. That explains a lot.
Now, just like in Colorado, where cannabis is legal, the politics far left, and brain function reduced due to the lack of oxygen (Colorado Springs is 6K above sea level, and they do not serve doubles at the bar due to the altitude),
we await the SCOTUS decision in whether Trump can be removed or not in Colorado.
If the SCOTUS rules that Trump has to appear on the ballot there, it will also be the same for Maine.
The ‘Pine Tree State’ of Maine is very clannish, inbred, and hostile to outsiders who try to retire there.
The weather is hot in the summer, and it has severe winter temps.
There are NO jobs that produce a living wage, unless you are in the Masonic Lodge, and then you’re almost guaranteed a job at Weyerhouser, Bath Iron Works, or warehousing at the many Óutdoor Recreational Suppliers. Owning a campground provides a living in the summer, with tight budgets for the winter.
Those who have arrived from outside the state lines will have no chance of living decently unless you marry into the families there that are severely inter-related (incestiously inbred), established from over 200 years ago, and are of closed-ranks. Nothing is open info, and everything is deceptively secretive, or just outright orchestrated lies!
It is also highly expensive to live there, especially ‘Down East”…
That was my experience in 1985. In 2024, nothing has changed but the nappies on the next generation who look like mirror images of their parents.
We all know where that genetic trait comes from…Madame Mitochondrial!
