A new RNZ-Reid Research poll suggests National MPs’ decision to retain Christopher Luxon as leader is out of step with public sentiment, with 45.4 percent saying the caucus made the wrong choice and 36.8 percent backing the decision.
While 78 percent of National voters supported Luxon remaining, opposition was stronger among New Zealand First, Labour and Green supporters.
Among respondents who wanted a leadership change, Erica Stanford led the suggested replacements on 16.6 percent, narrowly ahead of Chris Bishop on 15.2 percent, although 39.6 percent preferred none of the listed contenders.
The findings follow National’s turbulent emergency caucus meeting and failed leadership challenge, after which Luxon removed Chris Penk from Cabinet while speculation continued over the roles and ambitions of other senior MPs.
The problem isn’t Luxon, its National which is out of step with public sentiment. People don’t want gene tech, homeless people “moved on”, a foreign law enforcement agency the FBI operating on our sovereign soil. They don’t want the India FTA, they don’t want drug testing (its downright insulting), they don’t want more taxes when they are drowning in them already, they don’t want retirement moved ever further from their exhausted reach at 68. They don’t want councils that bleed them white with unjustified and exorbitant rates increases, that should have been pegged to inflation as they are in large parts of Australia.
People want is decent healthcare, education, a fair but manageable tax regime that doesn’t try to tax them twice and thrice, that’s well managed and not wasteful. To be able to live well and retire with dignity.
No Nationals problem is one of POLICY. Policy that does NOT work in the interests of New Zealanders. People are no longer interested in identity politics, they want party’s that represent their interests.
So you better wake up National and Labour, looking off shore the writing “is” on the wall. Change or die, your choice. Personally I hope you choose the latter, we don’t need more of what you represent, in my opinion.

No wonder people are looking at alternatives in the satellite fringe parties

So many recognised “the one source of truth” for the absolute BS it was.
Unfortunately, personal contemplation was the sole effort from so many, ones who easily and quickly came to that realisation.
We have to ‘wake up, stand up and speak up’ else nothing will change for the better.
