The All Blacks opened their campaign with an emphatic 16-33 victory over South Africa at Ellis Park, running in five tries to one in Johannesburg.
The lead changed hands repeatedly during a competitive first half, with Will Jordan and Josh Moorby crossing for New Zealand before the Springboks took a 13-12 advantage into the break.
South Africa extended their margin with an early second-half penalty, but Fabian Holland’s chargedown try shifted the contest decisively towards the visitors.
Luke Jacobson then powered over as New Zealand took control, while two late Springbok yellow cards left the hosts reduced to 13 men. Jordan capitalised by scoring his second try, sealing a commanding win in which the All Blacks turned a one-point halftime deficit into a 17-point triumph.
