ABs secure nail-biting win over England in Razor’s debut

Scott ‘Razor’ Robertson’s tenure as the All Blacks coach began with a tough 16-15 win over England in Dunedin.

The match was marked by crucial missed opportunities from England’s No.10 Marcus Smith, who failed to convert a conversion and two penalties. His counterpart, Damian McKenzie, also had difficulties, including being timed out on a late kick that could have widened the margin.

The game reached its climax when the All Blacks secured a turnover after the final siren, with captain Scott Barrett acknowledging the decisive moment could have gone either way. The defeat extends England’s winless streak in New Zealand since 2003.

The match began with high intensity following a passionate haka led by TJ Perenara. Despite early missed penalties, the All Blacks were first to score, thanks to a cross-field kick from McKenzie to Sevu Reece. England quickly responded, leveling the score by halftime. The second half saw continued struggles with penalties and conversions, notably from Smith, who missed eight crucial points. Changes by both teams in the second half brought fresh energy, but it was McKenzie’s penalties that ultimately secured the All Blacks’ lead. Despite a late scare with McKenzie’s timed-out kick, the All Blacks maintained their composure to claim a hard-fought victory.
