Maori sovereignty: Seymour slams Hipkins for supporting ‘a divided New Zealand’

Hipkins - Seymour news
Chris Hipkins (L), David Seymour (R).

ACT Party Leader David Seymour has criticised Labour leader Chris Hipkins for his recent remarks suggesting that Māori did not cede sovereignty, arguing that such statements promote division in New Zealand.

Seymour said that Hipkins’ stance implies the need for a separate Māori government, akin to the proposals outlined in the controversial He Puapua report.

“The only way this works is to have two states, with some citizens not part of the state ruled by the New Zealand Government,” Seymour stated. He said that while ACT strongly supports self-determination for Māori and all New Zealanders, Hipkins’ approach is unnecessarily polarising.

“What Chris Hipkins will never be able to explain is, how does New Zealand work according to his framework of different groups with different basic rights?”

Seymour also slammed the former unelected Prime Minister for his past decisions, particularly the closure of charter schools, which he argues stifled communities’ ability to take control of their education.

“If Chris Hipkins said communities should be free to take control of their education, whether ethnically based or not – like Māori, Pacific, and other communities did with charter schools – we would agree with him. But if he believed this, he wouldn’t have closed charter schools,” Seymour remarked, accusing Hipkins of failing to learn from his government’s “divisive tenure.”

  1. Maori did not cede sovereignty because they had no sovereignty to cede Hipkins, as you no doubt well know, and if you don’t, go look up the 1839 Royal Charter/Letters Patent for New Zealand and New South Wales and the 1877 ruling by Chief Justice Prendergast in the trial between Wi Parata v The Bishop of Wellington. This ruling explains why the treaty is a simple nullity.

  2. Yes and the current coalition aren’t doing much to stop it either, save watering it down a wee bit……

Anyone voting mainstream is wasting their vote……

  3. So Hipkins is advocating for splitting NZ into two seperate countries, one Māori and one European…

What was the word for that again, apart-something? 🤔

  4. Hipkins is just another bribed corrupt NWO shill. How do we all come to this conclusion ? because evertything he spouts is anti life – anti christian and anti pro family dhristian values. He is way on the wrong side of God and everyone needs to just condemn and ignore.

  5. Hipkins – doesn’t know what a woman is
Said mRNA ‘vaccine’ is a very safe ‘vaccine’ (doesn’t know what a vaccine is)
Said Covid-19 will spread and it will ‘find’ unvaccinated people (doesn’t know what influenza is)
Threatened to ‘hunt down’ unvaxxed people (doesn’t know what democracy is – only supports my body my choice for abortions)
Still doesn’t realise he is no longer the PM
Still doesn’t realise the depths to which he is disliked by the population, that he has zero chance of being re-elected, and how we all wish he would just shut up and go far, far away
