A homicide investigation has been started following the death of a man found in the middle of Point England Road late Saturday night.
Police were called to the scene at 11:15 p.m. and have since been working to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Greaves of Auckland City CIB confirmed that police are interviewing several witnesses who were in the area at the time of the incident. Although no arrests have been made yet, investigations are ongoing.
The victim, who sustained multiple injuries, appears to have been run over by his own vehicle, which was stolen during the incident. The car was later recovered on Sunday morning and is currently undergoing forensic examination. Police believe the vehicle travelled extensively across Auckland following the incident, and they are working to trace its movements.
A post-mortem examination has been completed, and formal identification is expected in the coming days. Support is being provided to the victim’s family.
Sergeant Greaves emphasized that while there are no indications the crime is gang-related, police presence will increase in the area over the next few days.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward by contacting police at 105 or through their website, referencing file number 241006/5254. Information can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 0800 555 111.
