The partner of an Australian diplomat at the Wellington embassy faces an assault charge following a late-night fracas with police on Dixon St, Wellington, on September 29, shortly after the Bledisloe Cup match between the All Blacks and Wallabies.
The incident, described as a “drunken punch-up,” involved three individuals, with the man reportedly invoking diplomatic immunity during a confrontation with police.
After MFAT secured a waiver of his immunity from the Australian Government, the man was served a summons on October 9 and is scheduled to appear in Wellington District Court on November 14.
