Foreign Influence: Calls for investigation into the flow of USAID funds to NZ institutions

USAID in NZ news

Allegations have come to light that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has been channeling substantial financial support to various organisations and institutions in New Zealand.

The revelation has sparked a debate on the integrity and motives behind USAID’s funding, especially given the agency’s recent characterisation as “corrupt” by influential figures within the U.S. administration.

USAID, established in 1961 under President John F. Kennedy, has historically been one of the largest sources of international aid, with a mission focused on ending extreme poverty and promoting “democratic societies”. However, recent actions by the Trump administration, including a near-total freeze on foreign aid and the intention to possibly disband or radically reform USAID, have cast a shadow over its operations and motives, both in the US and around the world.

Critics argue that USAID’s funding often aligns with U.S. geopolitical strategies and in recent times, leftist ‘woke’ ideologies like ‘climate change’, DEI, childhood transitioning and the promotion anti-conservative bias in universities and legacy media outlets, rather than purely humanitarian goals.

The potential for USAID funding in New Zealand has provoked heated debate about national sovereignty and whether foreign aid should influence local education and research agendas, as well as calls for institutions like universities, NGOs, political parties and legacy media outlets to come clean over whether they receive USAID funding either directly or indirectly. There is a concern that such funds come with strings attached, influencing academic freedom, legacy media ethics or national policy.

Concerns have also been raised over foreign influence in New Zealand through financial ties between international funding sources and local organisations, particularly NGOs. A preliminary investigation has suggested that more than 55,000 NGOs worldwide have facilitated the movement of over $3 trillion, with over 350 NGOs in New Zealand reportedly handling $8 billion in funds without adequate oversight.

A key issue highlighted is the alleged use of NGOs to bypass democratic processes, with some suggesting that the New Zealand government has either knowingly allowed or failed to properly regulate these activities.

One example cited is the “Christchurch Call”, an initiative launched by former Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern in response to the 2019 mosque attacks, aimed at monitoring and regulating online content. The current government, under Christopher Luxon, was said to have dissolved the programme under public pressure, but rather than shutting it down entirely, it was reportedly converted into an NGO, continuing to operate with less direct government oversight.

Critics argue that NGOs in New Zealand and beyond are being used as vehicles for external influence, allowing foreign governments or private interests to fund projects that may not have widespread democratic support. Some have called for all NGOs to be registered, audited annually, and required to operate with complete transparency to ensure they are not being exploited for political or ideological agendas.

Further allegations suggest that some of these funds may be linked to controversial programmes, including those promoting ideological education initiatives, changes in medical policies, and the hiring of lecturers and journalists with specific political leanings. The broader concern is that such activities, allegedly facilitated through foreign funding, could be shaping domestic policies and social norms without the explicit consent of the public.

  1. Well I never! Left wing propaganda in its corrupt worst. If we look at the divided state NZ has become, how much is us being a petri dish for these filthy interests.

  2. This kind of explains why governments in every western country and the mainstream media are all in lock step saying the same things about the topics. Like a bunch of parrots. Corrupt bas*****. It’s because this dirty Democrat outfit called USAID is using US taxpayers money to drive these narratives into NZ and other countries. Ultimately to drive a transfer of wealth back to themselves!!

    • Agreed. If true then this is the missing piece of the puzzle. It would explain why MSM has ditched journalism and became a propaganda and censorship machine.
Good on Musk calling them criminals.

  3. Lets see if a proper independent investigation takes place. If it doesn’t, I think we have all the answers we need and should vote accordingly……

Perhaps too, activists here in NZ should reach out to the likes of Elon Musk (maybe via X) and ask him for help, in exposing what might have happened here in NZ, given his role in the US govt…..

  4. I want to know if USAID money is given to the city councils around NZ. Councils are a law unto themselves with the introduction of fluoride in our water, regulations with housing construction plus using toxic pesticides amongst other nefarious actions.
Are the UN, WEF, WHO and other draconian agencies in bed with USAID? If so, they’re connected to our Govt and City Councils

  5. Get the popcorn out this is going to be some great watching. Livelihoods built on dishonesty will crumble, pariahs will sqiurm and be booking tickets outa here ASAP.

  6. Please let’s not forget that we are dealing with CORPORATIONS, incl. police, MoH, edjucation, well actually the whole government. What will the repercussions be for collusion and treason? Just a white collar crime of corruption if any, or the lynchmob?
There will never be a real investigation when it come to the parasites in the wasp nest.
