St Mirren produced a stunning performance to defeat holders Celtic in a frenetic Premier Sports Cup final at Hampden, securing the Scottish League Cup for just the second time in the club’s 148-year history.
An early header from former Celtic defender Marcus Fraser gave the Paisley side immediate momentum before Jonah Ayunga struck twice in the second half to seal a famous victory.
Celtic briefly levelled through Reo Hatate after Kieran Tierney’s cross, but St Mirren regrouped at half-time and dominated the latter stages as Celtic struggled to respond.
The defeat compounded a difficult start for new Celtic manager Wilfried Nancy, whose side slumped to another major final loss, while St Mirren celebrated their first League Cup triumph since 2013 in front of jubilant supporters at Hampden.
