Award-winning musician Teremoana Rapley confirms inoperable brain cancer diagnosis

The former Upper Hutt Posse member has revealed in an interview with the Sunday Star Times that she is living with inoperable brain cancer.

The 51-year-old, recently honoured with the Independent Spirit Award for her contributions to music and Pacific artists’ advocacy, shared that she may have only months left to live.

Rapley disclosed her diagnosis, received in 2022, and discussed her shifting mindset and focus on living despite the prognosis. The shock diagnosis contributed to the delay in releasing her debut album Daughter of a Housegirl.

Rapley’s career spans decades, collaborating with various musical acts and making significant contributions to New Zealand’s rap culture.
