Vince Zampella, the influential co-creator of the blockbuster gaming Call of Duty series, has died in a car crash in California at the age of 55.
His death was confirmed by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, the studio he co-founded.
Authorities said Zampella was travelling in a Ferrari that veered off a Los Angeles highway, struck a concrete barrier and caught fire, killing both occupants.
A pioneer of modern shooter games, Zampella helped shape franchises including Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, Titanfall and Apex Legends, leaving a lasting mark on the global games industry.
